Communities that are involved in decision-making about their area and the services within it, that are well connected and supportive and where neighbours look out for each other, are healthier places to live. The teleconference will consider how community-centred approaches that build on individual and community assets are becoming an essential part of local health plans to reduce health inequalities and will include an interactive Q&A session.
Teleconference: Wednesday 28 February 2018, 11.45am – 12.30pm
Please join Professor John Newton, National Director of Health Improvement, Public Health England, for the launch of this latest edition of Health Matters. He will be joined by Dr Ann Marie Connolly, Deputy Director, Health Equity and Mental Health at PHE and Professor Jane South, National Adviser, Healthy Communities at PHE and Leeds Beckett University.
Why you should take part:
Community-centred approaches are not just community-based, they are about mobilising assets within communities, promoting equity and increasing people’s control over their health and lives. There will be a discussion on scaling up community-centred approaches and how local leaders, commissioners and service providers can make use of the ‘family of community-centred approaches’ to consider potential options for commissioning health improvement and preventive services. The session will be of particular value to local authorities and CCGs, NHS and social care professionals and voluntary and community sector organisations.
