Webinar: Queers Futures 2

Queer Futures 2 is an NIHR funded study whose aim has been to produce research that will improve the provision of mental health support for LGBTQ+ young people when they first start experiencing mental health problems.

There has been very little research on LGBTQ+ young people and mental health support in the past and as a result, we have not understood what type of support would improve their mental health.

We do know that:

• Children and young people’s mental health is a national UK priority

• LGBTQ+ young people are more likely than heterosexual or cis young people to experience mental health problems

• CAMHS are recognised to be under intense pressure

• LGBTQ+ young people underutilise mental health services

• LGBQT+ young people often find mental health services unhelpful

Following 3 years of research, including investigation of current services for LGBTQ+ young people and specific service-based case studies, our team has created a What Works? model and microsite, intended to support service development from both the NHS and third sector providers; as well as inform LGBTQ+ young people about their rights and what they might expect from a service.

Please see below the recording and presentations for this session.
