One in five people in England have a long-standing limiting disability or illness. We know that people from a diverse range of backgrounds are affected by the coronavirus restrictions. However, research repeatedly shows that disabled people and people with long-term health conditions are more adversely affected than other populations.  Before the pandemic, good progress was being made on closing the unjust gap between disabled and non-disabled people’s activity levels.

Impact of COVID-19 on disabled people's activity (activityalliance.org.uk) - Disabled people are more likely to be shielding and feel uncomfortable leaving the house compared to the general population. (39% compared to 26%). Disabled people continue to be less active, and activity levels are decreasing from the summer. (In November 2020, 26% of non-disabled people were classified as active, whereas this was 21% for disabled people). Just over half (53%) feel they have the opportunity to be physically active (compared to 72% of non-disabled people).
