The Association of Directors of Public Health, Yorkshire and the Humber presents: A Public Health Framework for Preventing and Reducing Gambling Harms in Y&H – Launch Webinar
Our vision:
‘In Yorkshire & the Humber, we want a future where no one experiences gambling harm’*
Gambling is a multi-billion-pound industry in Great Britain and has wide ranging and unequal impacts on people and communities – presenting a public health priority. Much more needs to be done to prevent gambling harm – and to protect future generations from the damaging and unequal impacts on mental health, finances, relationships and family life, and which are often hidden from view.
Aims:
This webinar, hosted by the Y&H Association of Directors of Public Health, launched ‘A Public Health Framework for Preventing and Reducing Gambling Harms in Yorkshire and the Humber: A guide for local action’; an updated second edition of a comprehensive framework that aims to guide effective and evidence-based practice.
We heard from a range of speakers on the topic, explored several case studies, and presented the newly launched framework with a practical ‘how to’ demonstration. There was also opportunity for Q&A.
Audience:
Like the framework, this webinar was for anyone interested in, or working to prevent, harm from gambling in their community. We invite bookings from those working in the public and voluntary sector, in public health or other local authority and community services. Individuals working in alcohol, mental health or financial support services may also find this relevant.
Find out more about gambling harm as a public health priority, and how we can all contribute to positive change – join us on Monday 16th December 2024, from 10.15am-12.00 online.

Funding statement: The review and update of this framework, and coordination of this webinar, has been part of a Y&H ADPH 3-year programme to prevent and reduce gambling harm funded by a regulatory settlement. Regulatory settlement funds are payment in lieu of a financial penalty the Gambling Commission might otherwise impose for breach of a licence condition. The project remit was approved by the Gambling Commission with no involvement of the UK gambling operator. There has been no gambling industry involvement in any part of this webinar or related programme. More information on this type of funding can be found here: What are Regulatory Settlement funds?
